Another of several pieces that orbit the center of the Norrath-verse, the East Commonlands Tunnel. For those that played, it's easy to understand why so many "slice of life" paintings come from this area. For those that haven't - well, that's why we're here. Or just for the nostalgia.
Bone chips, as discussed in other posts, are a common item commonly used and commonly sold in East Commonlands to Necromancers and Shadow Knights. They use them to make their skeleton pets for combat, crowd control, etc. Bone chips can stack on top of each other in counts of 20. Since they are easily found on even the lowest level skeletal enemy, they are an easily obtained resource that are necessary ingredients for all levels of the previously mentioned classes. What's happening in this piece is one part rite of passage for anyone looking to move weight in the largest economic hub in the game, one part luck, and one part generosity.
Side note: there are also some quests that require them, including a famous one outside of the Iksar capital city that can be used to raise faction high enough to get past the guards.
The luck comes from a high level player who actually needs these bone chips who either counts on the East Commonlands economy (which I will now call the EC-onomy) at the exact time a player is trying to offload their piles of bones. The generosity comes from a player who might only need some of the chips, or even none of the chips, but is willing to do the new player a favor by buying their entire inventory.
Sounds specific, but it happened, and still happens, a LOT. Generosity and chance encounters might even be more common now on the emulated servers then they were back in 1999-2001. Now, you have players who have maxed out many characters, and if they are still playing then they have plenty of expendable cash, and an abundance of interest in spreading good vibes to new players experiencing a favorite game of theirs for the first time.
The races in here - human and halfling - were just two that I didn't do that often. The character designs in-game are fantastic, and I was happy to insert them into the role of high-level necromancer, and low level entrepreneur.
