Fippy Darkpaw might be the most well-known, or at least well-loved NPC enemy in all of EverQuest. Not because he is dangerous, or drops a special item, or has any legendary lore that would make him a crowd favorite. Instead, Fippy Darkpaw has endeared himself to so many through his constant death cycle while charging the guards at the gates of Qeynos.

At first, it's easy to just shrug him off as a rabid NPC that the player needs to watch out for after hearing him /yell in the zone before his attack. Then, maybe after 5-10 cycles of him dying, you pay a bit more attention to his words:

"BBBBAAAARRRKKKK!!!!! You humans will pay for ruining our homeland! GRRRRRR!! Family Darkpaw of the Sabretooth Clan will slay you all!! BARK!"

Homeland? Family? In the words of that famous David Mitchell and Mark Webb skit where they play Nazis, "...are we the baddies?"

Fippy always loses. Sometimes he makes it into the city without aggroing the guards, but these are rare.

The owner of the game's IP, Darkpaw studios, is named after him. There is a song named after him. He was featured in the digital trading card game. There are awards on The EverQuest Show (an unofficial fan channel that is a true testament to the game's legacy and community) named after him. Needless to say, he has made an impact, for nothing other than being relentless, loyal, and consistent, even in failure.
