The Once-Was Merchant King

A proud race whose cultural heritage and practices can still be seen tattooed on their bodies, dwarves now live as seldom seen refugees inside the city streets and dark alleys of the kingdom's capital. They are sworn enemies of goblins and other subterranean races, so much so that they will collect their heads, arms, ears, and even hands amongst a trove of other trinkets, treasures, and valuables. They will often be found wearing and equipping all of their wealth on their bodies at all times. It is both a sign of stature as well as an easy way to make high-end barters on the spot at any time. Some of the more infamous traders in the darkest corners used to be high ranking officials, or even royalty of the former mountain kingdoms.
